What do we mean by a non-healing wound?
Non-healing wounds can be defined as any wound that has not responded to standard treatment and has reduced by less than 20% in 2 weeks or less than 40% in 4 weeks.

Shift the focus from reactive wound management to a proactive treatment approach  

For patients with non-healing wounds, early use of advanced therapies can mean the difference between healing and serious complications such as osteomyelitis, rehospitalisation, or even amputation.1–5 Wound healing rates increased by approximately 60% when sNPWT was initiated within 3 months (n=17) compared to wounds treated after more than 1 year (n=15).6

It recommends reviewing wounds for active treatment:7

 

  • After 2–4 weeks of standard care/dressings
  • From day 1 of care, if the patient is identified as having a non-healing wound.
