A VLU is an open skin lesion resulting from chronic venous insufficiency and ambulatory venous hypertension, typically occurring on the medial lower leg between the ankle and the knee1

- Vascular problems are the leading cause of skin ulceration on the lower leg2
- There are 2 main types of vascular-related leg ulceration to consider - venous and arterial3
- Due to underlying pathology, different management strategies are required3
