ADVANCED WOUND MANAGEMENT
Breast surgery
Therapeutic mastectomy and reduction mammoplasty are both considered to be common procedures,1,2 but surgical site complications (SSCs), often associated with certain patient risk factors,3 can lead to substantial additional costs,4,5 potential delays to adjuvant treatment6,7 and a reduction in scar quality8
Back at home, not back in hospital
Implementing a formal protocol for prophylactic use of the PICO◊ Single Use Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System (sNPWT) has been shown to significantly reduce the odds of developing a SSI by 64%*11 and reduce the incidence of dehiscence,12,13 while reducing costs.9,14
- Studies have shown a 63% relative reduction in major seroma incidence,**14 and a 75% reduction in the incidence of wound dehiscence**11
- Reducing the incidence of wound breakdown and implant loss enabled an estimated cost saving of £426 per patient, compared to standard dressings**9
- Studies have shown a significant reduction of 38% in the incidence of post-surgical dehiscence***12 and a significant 50% reduction in incidence of dehiscence in bilateral procedures***15
- Scar quality following reduction mammoplasty was shown to be improved at 42 & 90 days post-surgery****12,16
