Venous leg ulcer

A VLU is an open skin lesion resulting from chronic venous insufficiency and ambulatory venous hypertension, typically occurring on the medial lower leg between the ankle and the knee1

  • Vascular problems are the leading cause of skin ulceration on the lower leg2
  • There are 2 main types of vascular-related leg ulceration to consider - venous and arterial3
  • Due to underlying pathology, different management strategies are required3
